How to Market Your Services and Maintain a Consistent Income

consistent incomeWith the myriad of options available to market your small business, it’s quite easy to become overwhelmed in trying to figure out where you should focus your attention. Let me help you simplify the process.

First, consider, who is an ideal client for YOUR business. This is critical, because you cannot be all things to all people. (I know you think everyone and anyone needs your service. But that is simply NOT true. The quicker you accept that, the more successful your business will be).

Determining who your ideal client is begins with choosing a target market. Then you can identify who within that market will get the best, long lasting results in working with you. Your ideal client is the ONE person who is truly losing sleep at night because they are struggling with the exact problem you solve. They value your expertise, are ready to invest in the solutions you offer, roll up their sleeves and get to work. Read more about How to Market Your Services and Maintain a Consistent Income

How to Choose the Right Marketing Strategies for Your Business

SMART Goals

What is a marketing strategy? I like to define it as “a process that allows you to concentrate your limited resources on the greatest opportunities to increase your visibility, sales and income.”

For example, let's say you have the goal to enroll 3 new clients within the next 30 days. You should then focus your time, energy and resources ONLY on the necessary tasks that will allow you to reach that goal, and NOTHING else!

How can you ensure that your marketing plan will yield the results that you seek? By making sure to:

  • Identify the needs of your ideal client and how you'll address them.
  • Focus on specific marketing strategies to help you achieve your goals

Identify the needs of your target market

Having a service-based business is ALL about solving the problems your target market is struggling with. To do that, you need to be clear about what they need and what you can do to eliminate their challenges.

For example, if you are a personal trainer, connect with what your prospects really need. It may be their goal to lose weight, build strength, increase flexibility or simply look better in the mirror. Read more about How to Choose the Right Marketing Strategies for Your Business

Exponentially Increase Your Revenue Through Speaking

speechOne of the fastest ways to increase your revenue is to make yourself available as a public speaker. It’s quite all right if you have never done it before. If you focus on a topic that's truly of interest to your audience, prepare well in advance and formulate a follow up system you really can't lose.

Keep in Mind...It's ALL About Them!

We entrepreneurs have a bad habit of focusing our marketing efforts on what we want to say, vs. what our audience really cares about. The first step in using speaking to get more clients and to increase your income is to prepare a talk that addresses a pain point your audience is facing. Make your talk ALL about your ideal client and a specific problem they are looking to solve right now.

Not sure what your audience is struggling with? Then you need to spend a little time doing some market research to find out. Use that information to develop a talk that showcases your credibility, a few specific main points, and include a strong call to action so that they can learn more by purchasing a product or working with you directly. How to Consistently Create Content if You Have No Time, No Interest and No Know-How

If you think about the way you make purchasing decisions for products and services you'll likely realize that it's the companies that educate you, show you they understand your pain and offer a practical solution that get your attention. And if they make a compelling enough offer, you are likely to part with your hard earned cash to get your hands on what you need.

Let's for a moment, focus on that education piece. Often when we go seeking a solution to a particular problem, it's because we don't know enough about the subject to resolve the challenge on our own. How to Know Exactly What Your Market Wants to Buy From You

moneyCorrect me if I'm wrong, but I believe that you want your target market to be giddy over your services and products. You are in the business of serving others and you want to help as many ideal clients as you could possibly manage. Right?

To be of service and create a profitable business requires that you speak directly to the market that is already seeking the solutions that you provide. The first step to getting your target market to be giddy over your offerings (and increasing your profits) is to get CRYSTAL clear on who your ideal client is and what it is they want from you. Not sure how to do this? Let's break it down.

Your Ideal Client - This is the ONE individual in your business that you can't believe you get paid to work with. The one who happily pays your fees and appreciates the value you add to their lives. The one you get excited to talk to and look forward to meeting with. What does this person's life look like? What are they interested in? What do they read? Where do they vacation? What is their family structure? (These details help you understand their priorities and how they spend their time.)

Take a few moments to reflect on all of the clients you've worked with in the past. Write down the demographics of each person and whether or not they were an ideal client. (If they were not ideal for your business, note the reason(s) why). Then look for patterns. What do these individuals have in common? Take Action Notes:

  • Focus and consistency are keys to your success as an entrepreneur.
  • You’ll get much better results with your marketing when you focus your efforts on ONE target market and ONE ideal client profile.
  • If you’ve struggled with choosing a target market consider these points:
    1. With what group of people have you done your best work?
    2. What opportunities are currently available to you?
    3. What kind of clients do you want to fill your practice with?
  • Keep in mind, your choice isn’t forever! Just choose based on the goals you have for your business right NOW (say for the next 30-60 days).
  • There is no “right” or “wrong” choice. Just pick one and go with it! Remember, focus and consistency is the key to your success.
