Have you ever played the board game Monopoly? As you may know, the objective of the game is to become the wealthiest player through buying renting and selling property. The moniker itself tells you the whole point of playing. How can the objective of Monopoly help you to build your business?
Just as you set goals for yourself when you play Monopoly, you likely have specific goals for your business that support your vision of success. One of the best ways to achieve your goals is to build an email list of prospective clients that you can market to again and again.
Building an email list is about creating a community of individuals who have requested to hear from you on regular basis. In a sense, you are seeking to monopolize your subscribers’ attention on the topics of which you are an expert.
The goal with your marketing efforts should be to educate, create awareness about the services or products you sell, cultivate interest and eventually lead to a purchasing relationship.
How can you go about building your community of subscribers? By consistently sharing your expertise with the exact people who are looking for the solutions that you offer. When you share your solutions (online or offline), consumers will be drawn to your business and you can monopolize their attention.
Here are 3 ways to put this strategy into action:
Writing
You do not have to be a Pulitzer Prize winner in order to do so through writing. Simply remember that you are in the business of helping other people. Focus on giving them tangible solutions to the problems they’re facing.
Always remember that you can speak your thoughts, record them and have the audio transcribed. The transcriptions can then become blog posts, articles for your email newsletter, PowerPoint presentations and many other formats in which your target market consumes your expertise.
When you put practical solutions into writing, people will gladly become a part of your community. They will ask you to monopolize to their attention because they enjoy learning from you.
Speaking
Remember, you are helping other people by sharing your experience and knowledge. You want to deliver that knowledge in a way that your target market easily consumes it. For example, we deliver live presentations in front of our target audience on a regular basis.
This enables us to build our community with high-quality leads because attendees at these events often enjoy the information and desire to learn more from us. Speaking doesn’t have to be in a face-to-face environment. You can also speak to your audience via a podcast, a webinar, a teleseminar, or by being a guest at someone else’s event.
Utilize speaking to your target market as a strategy for building your subscriber list. The people who are searching for the solutions that you offer will thank you for it.
Video
Per YouTube’s latest report:
- More than 1 billion unique users visit YouTube each month
- Over 6 billion hours of video are watched each month on YouTube—that’s almost an hour for every person on Earth
- 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute
No matter what product or service you sell, there is a good chance (at least a portion) of your target market is online looking for videos about related topics. Creating videos is great way to build your subscriber list. If you hate the sound of your voice or even your appearance on video, don’t worry.
You can produce videos without including either your voice or your face!
The point is this: to attract ideal prospects online you MUST generate content in a way that they prefer to consume it. Your expertise is invaluable to the target market that you serve.
As a solutions provider, it is your duty and privilege to build a community of people who want to hear from you on a regular basis. Utilize the three strategies writing, speaking and video to monopolize (if even for a moment) the attention of the people who need you.
Your subscriber community will be very appreciative that they have a resource (you) who is willing to serve them. New subscribers will find your helpful content and gladly join your growing community. If you would like more helpful information for growing your list, click HERE.
Your Action Plan For The Week:
- Make a list of the top methods that people use to consume the information that you provide.
- Review the content that you have produced over the past six months. Determine whether or not that content is reached your audience and solved their problems. (Note: review blog comments, number of emails opened, review feedback from your community)
- Start creating new content, based on what your audience has said they want to learn from you, and share it in order to build your subscriber community. (For example: when you produce a new video, be sure to drive traffic to your video and track how well it is received.)
