It’s likely that earlier this month (or even late in December) you said to yourself …
“2010 is going to be different! I’m going to A, B and C and this year I’m REALLY going to do it!”
Kudos to you for acknowledging improvements that need to be made in your business and having a strong desire to make needed changes. Even though you articulated that you planned to make some specific changes, did you really commit to making them happen?
Did you take the time to map out an action plan? To identify what it will really take to say, market your business more effectively, attract more clients, or create a different revenue stream than just working one-to-one with clients? Are you clear on what resources you need to bring these goals to life? Have you blocked out time on your calendar to actually make them happen?
If not, then you haven’t really made the commitment. Moreover, unfortunately, you’re not likely to make any progress on your goals.
The good news is, it’s not late to get yourself on track! We’re now in the third week of a new year and a new decade. If you take action now, you can still set in motion the wheels of progress in your business. Here’s how to get started:
- Take a few minutes, TODAY, to write down what you’d like to accomplish in your business by March 31st
- Then, write down what resources you need to get the job done. (Do you need to hire a Virtual Assistant, a Graphic Designer or a Marketing Strategist? Do you need to purchase a particular piece of software)?
- Finally, carve out specific blocks of time to work on your projects, each day/week/month, so that you make steady progress.
Now that you have a plan, there is one other thing I want you to remember. There WILL be bumps in the road. The design project may take longer than expected. The software may be more complicated then you thought. It may take you a while to clarify the specifics of your goal.
Whatever the case may be don’t be discouraged! Bumps in the road are to be expected. So, instead of allowing distractions and delays to derail your progress, plan for them. Embrace them! It’s OK. If you’ve built a reasonable timeline for your marketing project, then you’ll still reach your goal on time.
The key to success is to keep moving forward! Don’t allow a “bump” in your path to hinder your progress. Address the challenge, take steps to eliminate it and move forward. Refer back your plan often (even weekly!) so that you keep your goals top-of-mind. And reach out for support when you need it! If you’d like to discuss your challenges with me, contact me at Info@SmartSimpleMarketing.com to schedule a “Business Breakthrough” session. I’d be happy to help.
Be sure to post your thoughts, comments, goals and success below! You’ll enjoy having others cheer you on and will inspire them as well!

Great post Sydni, it’s a great idea to reconnect now with those goals instead of finding yourself in March saying what have I accomplished.

Thanks for the comment Pam! You’re absolutely right! It’s not too late to get a jump start on those great ideas. What specific goals do you have in mind?
