    Great post Syndi!

It is so true that all those distractions throughout the day give us an “excuse” to not get done what really needs to get done – and what truly matters. So key to make focus priority #1 and then remove what doesn’t align with that.

I also really like what you said about making decisions – will take me closer to me my goal or further away – then decisions on what to say yes to and what to say no – come much easier.

A friend of mine suggested Toggle.com (sp?) as a time tracking tool – that helps you determine how much time you spend on projects. Another friend suggested Harvest.com – some tools to check-out to help with this –

Thanks Syndi for your great tips!

Sydni, this is right in line with the advice I give my own clients! For myself, I have to write down 2 hours in my calendar every week for marketing. If it’s not written down on the calendar, it’s less likely to happen. Plus, I need to have a list of what I want to accomplish – which is your second point.

One of the things that helps me continually throughout the day is that I have changed my email to only refresh every 30 minutes. If I need to, I can hit send/receive and it will check right away. But mostly, I don’t need to have it looking every 5 minutes. Sometimes, I run it up to only checking every hour or 2 hours. What a relief!

    Thank you Sydni
This is great. I realize that my challenge with getting distracted is about not being really clear about what I need to be doing…so I just do for the sake of doing. I now have a mastermind that keeps me focused and clear on my goals. YEAH!

Love the idea of closing down the distractions while focusing on one thing.

I hear that a lot Kelli! You are definitely not alone. It’s hard to stay focused and take consistent action when you aren’t clear about what you’re doing or why. Clarity is priceless! I hope your new coaching program is helping you with this.

    Hi Sydni,

My focus or struggle is my to do list and calendar. I have an iPad and find it very hard to change to electronic calendar and to do list. I’m such a paper person but thought I have to learn to do things more “modern” with the latest “technology.” But I’m overlooking and missing ALOT!

    Help!

I totally feel your struggle Patricia! I would MUCH prefer paper and pen. I’m a huge fan of the Franklin Covey system. I was never more productive than when I used it each day. I even got Wil to use it for a while. Unfortunately, my life and business have grown to the point that too many people need access to my schedule. So my handy paper and pen doesn’t work anymore. I really struggled to embrace an electronic calendar, but I forced myself to get use to it. Once I made the commitment to use it and embrace the benefits, it got much easier! I think I was subconsciously resisting using it, which was causing a lot of frustration for everyone involved. So, if you’d got to do it, you’ve got do to it. It will, in many ways, make your life easier. So perhaps a simple mindset shift is in order. 🙂 Let me know what you think!
